| The
magnificent display of vegetables, vegetable carvings,
animal replicas made out of vegetables at the annual
vegetable show at Nehru park in Kotagiri, which got
off to a spectacular start Saturday morning, provided
a feast
to the eyes and a platform for tourists to take lessons
on the importance of each vegetable variety, its nutritive
value and health benefits. The 26 ft high Eiffel tower,
made out of 700 kg of drumstick and a few carrots and
cabbages is the star attraction at the show with every
visitor showing eager to pose for a photo in front of
it.
The show never fails to impress tourists
who turn up to enjoy the wonders of vegetables and congregation
of different varieties of vegetables in one place. Terming
the show as wonderful and educative, Ms K. Dhivya, a
student tourist from Tirupur, said it was exciting to
be in Nehru park in the salubrious climate amongst the
different kinds of vegetables.
The display of vegetables, vegetable
carvings and new varieties of vegetables were attractive
and help one know more about vegetables and develop
a passion for veggies, she said. Saying
that her visit to the show was just by chance, Ms S.
Priyanka, a tourist from Coimbatore, said though she
knows about most of the vegetables grown
in the hills, some new hybrid varieties like table radish,
long beetroot are new to her.
She suggested there should be a separate
section in the show to sell these new varieties of vegetables
to
tourists. Such shows help in spending a holiday leisurely
in a green environment and gain information on vegetables.
